About ISSA – History
History
The Islamic Society of South Australia was originally established on the 21st of April 1955, making it the oldest registered Islamic organisation in Australia – although the ‘Afghan’ community (who originated from Central Asia and were brought to Australia with their camels to open Central Australia) established mosques and community activities from the early 1800’s.
Since then, ISSA has been serving the community for over 70 years. ISSA is the first and oldest Muslim organization in Australia and South Australia.

The Purpose and Objectives of ISSA are:
To preserve the Islamic ideas and way of life as laid in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah within the community.
To develop the concept of Islamic brotherhood amongst muslims in South Australia.
To advance the South Australian muslim interests.
To provide the community with social, educational and spiritual services.
